Why this site exists
Search for a volcano tour in Iceland and the results arrive over photographs of fountaining lava. Nothing is erupting. The Icelandic Met Office reports uplift at Svartsengi and expects the next intrusion to run into the Sundhnukur crater row, which may or may not reach the surface, and nobody selling a tour can tell you when.
The listings have not all caught up either. One afternoon hike still advertises seeing erupting lava at Litli-Hrutur. One coach tour still carries an operator note saying the flow there has stopped but the ground is smoldering. Both sentences are older than the situation they describe.
Putting that next to the price is the job of this site.
Where the facts come from
Prices, durations, ratings, review counts, inclusions, age limits and cancellation terms are read off each operator's listing, in US dollars, and every card carries the operator name, the platform and the product ID so you can check it yourself.
Eruption status comes from the Icelandic Met Office and trail and access warnings from Safetravel, the service ICE-SAR runs. Attraction facts come from the attraction: the ticket price at Kerid, the opening hours and price at Raufarholshellir, the season dates and the hike distance published by Inside the Volcano.
Where an operator admits something inconvenient in its own words, we quote it rather than smooth it over.
What we do not do
We do not ride the tours, inspect the vehicles, meet the guides or audit safety records. Whether a glacier route is safe on a given morning takes someone standing on it, and that is a job for the operator and for the authorities.
We also do not take your booking. Every Check Availability button sends you to the platform the operator sells on, where the price, the terms and the cancellation window are theirs.
How the site pays for itself

It pays for the research and nothing else. It does not decide which tours appear, in what order they sit, or what is said about them.
Corrections
Volcanoes move faster than websites. If a price has changed, a road has closed or a season has shifted, write to us and say what you found and when you were there. We would rather fix a number than defend it.
